Maths is one of the core subjects at Tetney Primary School. We believe that all children should be taught the basic maths skills that will enable them to become confident using maths in further education and in everyday life. We use a range of teaching styles and methods to support how these basic skills are applied in a variety of contexts. We firmly believe we give the children the time and support to apply these skills and make mistakes in an environment by supporting each individual as they learn, grow and succeed.
We follow the Effective Maths scheme, which ensures a deep and comprehensive framework for high-quality teaching of maths - further information on this can be found at the Effective Maths website here. Pupils will also have this work supplemented by resources from White Rose Maths and NCETM. The long-term plan (coverage across a year group) provided by Effective Maths can be viewed below.
Please use our calculation policy to see how we teach different concepts to support learning at home. We have also developed a concrete materials progression document, to demonstrate how different concepts are taught using a range of models and physical equipment across school for key areas of maths.
