Who are the governors and what do they do?
School governors form the largest volunteer group in the United Kingdom. Their role is strategic and they are responsible for:
- developing a vision and strategy for the school
- overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
- holding the school leadership to account to ensure that every pupil has the best possible education
The Headteacher is responsible for the operational aspects of a school.
Tetney Primary School Governors
The instrument of governance states that the board shall consist of:
- 2 co-opted governors (appointed by the board)
- 1 staff governor (elected by staff)
- 2 parent governors (elected by parents)
- 1 Headteacher
- 1 Local Authority governor (nominated by the Local Authority and appointed by the board)
