Elm Class

Welcome from Miss Winn, Mrs Dixon and all the Year 4 and 5 pupils of Elm Class.

We have had a great year so far and are ready for the summer term. The children have come back to school very keen and ready to learn.

What are we up to?

We are excited to up date you with what is going on in Elm class this term. Watch this space for updates!

Maths Measuring

The children have been working on measuring a route around the school and mapping it out on to squared paper as they go. They have been using a key to scale down their walks. They have been challenged to create a walk that is either 1/4 of a KM, 1/2 of a KM or a full KM.

We have been working hard on the unit of instructions in literacy. We looked at the features and what makes instructions good. We analysed instructions in depth, noting what made them successful and clear. The children then wrote instructions for each other & we then followed a set of instructions on making fairy cakes. The results where yummy! Miss Addison and Miss Newton even judged our baking in a 'Bake off Style' - what great fun!

Labyrinth Church Visit

Year 4, 5 and 6 where invited along to church to experience the Prayer Labyrinth. The children learnt that a labyrinth is a way to help us think and pray about the journey we are on in out lives. It is an ancient way to be calm and quiet to think about the things that re important to us, one another, our wider world and God.

The children also had the opportunity to write prayers.

All about me...

The children have made posters to tell us about themselves. We are really interested to know more of what they do at home. We'd love for them to bring in things from home to add to our display.

Book of the month

David Walliams - Awful Auntie

Miss Winn & Mrs Dixon's star of the week

Benjamin is the star of the week this week. He worked really hard to build his confidence during bikeability and was whizzing around impressing everyone by the end of the two days. Well done!

Samantha has worked really hard and completed her Sapphire award.

Megan has completed her turquoise award this term. Well done Megan!

Jacob has completed his silver award this term. A great job Jacob!

Elm Class Merits

Samantha and Archer received merits this week in Elm Class.

Samantha has produced some beautiful writing, turning simple sentences in to more detailed and descriptive.

Archer showed off his terrific tennis skills during a PE session.

Well done you two!

Kieran and Kayla received our merit award this week.

Kieran's award was for a really positive attitude and for his lovely easy going nature.

Kayla's award was for her hard work in understanding adjectival phrases - something she has been working on all week!

Well done you two!
