Welcome to Cedar Class!

Your teachers this year are Mr. T Hawkins and Mr. N Morrison (Thurs). Mrs. Baker will be there to help both teachers throughout the week.
A New Year brings new topics and this term we are hoping that the force is with us as we’ll be learning all about forces, in many different ways...
Literacy
This term in Literacy we are starting off by looking at how to write superbly structured narratives - making the stories we write even more interesting and exciting for the reader. This builds on the work we were doing before Christmas and will help turn us into even better authors.
Later in the term we will be exploring how to create a persuasive written argument, as well as looking at a range of poetry and stories from other cultures.
Numeracy
In Numeracy we are working hard on improving our problem solving skills, which will help us use our maths in everyday life. Also, we will be consolidating and expanding our knowledge of shape, space and measure. Many of the maths skills we learnt last term we will be putting into practice in our science work.
Any numeracy homework set this term will be to either consolidate work done in class that week, or to refresh our memories of what we did last term in preparation for upcoming work. As always, an ability to quickly recall the times tables will help make much of the maths we come across easier.
Topic: May The Force Be With You
Our topic for these terms is ‘May The Force Be With You’ and will include:
Science – Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
How do forces work? How do planes and helicopters fly? Can we beat gravity?
Geography – Mountains
How and where are mountains made? Who lives in a mountain community?
History – The Vikings
Where did the Vikings come from? What impact did the Vikings have on life in Britain?
RE - Sikhism
What do Sikhs believe? Where did Sikhism originate and why? How do Sikhs express their faith?
PE
This term PE will be on Wednesday (Hockey) and Thursday (Orienteering). Both these activities can be done indoors in the event of rain, however outside is preferable - so please ensure children have suitable PE kit for the outdoor sessions (t-shirt and shorts may not be enough!). Appropriate footwear is also essential, as plimsolls don’t offer much protection from a stray hockey ball!
Homework
Homework is given out on a Friday to be collected by the following Friday. It is important all tasks are completed to a high standard. If homework is not handed back on time (without valid reason) additional tasks will be issued.
