Dear Parents and Friends,

It is with great pleasure that I write to you at the beginning of a new era for Tetney Primary School, as we welcome our new Head Teacher Miss Sarah Addison.

As Governors we have chosen carefully to provide our school with a leader who will inspire the children and staff to achieve their very best.

Our vision as a Governing body is to be as effective as possible, by asking Miss Addison challenging questions to ensure that the children of Tetney School are encouraged to achieve their full potential in a safe, happy environment, in a well behaved manner.

We will ensure that our School teaches British Values and respect for adults and peers, under the guidance of strong, consistent leadership. So that when the children leave to attend secondary school, they have a sense of self-worth, and are well equipped to manage the rapidly changing digital world.

We aim to support parents and staff in their efforts to encourage excellence in their charges, so that the school is popular and renowned for its excellent quality of teaching and learning.

At this time we have vacancies for two Parent Governors and one Co-opted Governor.

Governors play an increasingly important role alongside the Head Teacher in leading the school in its development and vision for continued success. At Tetney Primary School we are committed to ensuring high standards are not only met but exceeded. As “critical friends”, the governors support and challenge the leadership to achieve the very best for the children in our care.
As the school’s accountable body the Governors responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establishing the strategic direction of the school and agreeing its policies and objectives
  • Curriculum Monitoring
  • The review and approval of the school’s budget
  • Monitoring Pupil Progress
  • Appointing and supporting the Head teacher and staff

To ensure these responsibilities are met, our Governing Body comprises three sub-committees; Finance, Staffing and Premises; Curriculum & Standards and Parents & Community and each governor is required to be a member of at least one sub-committee.

This structure ensures the effective management of relevant issues and decisions which are then approved by the full Governing Body.

We also appoint link Governors with special responsibilities to monitor all aspects of school life including Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Special Educational needs.

It is important to Miss Addison and the Governing Body, that as parents and friends of the school, you feel welcome.

A strong relationship between school and home assists your child’s development and well-being within school and we depend upon the co-operation, support and involvement of our parents.
